Staying in the Deluxe Suite was a great choice for our short getaway. The suite overlooked the river and provided a lovely setting to unwind after exploring the nearby Fenced Acre and Pingles Pit, both within a short distance. I particularly enjoyed the spacious layout of the suite, which included a cozy sitting room and a well-equipped bathroom. The overall environment was serene, making it a perfect spot to relax for a night.

Charming riverside retreat
The Anchor Hotel surprised us with fine river views from our beautiful king suite. The communal kitchen was a gem, stocked with everything we needed for our meals, and the delicious breakfast was a highlight. The atmosphere is cozy.
The location is quite remote, made dining options limited as we had to drive to the nearest town. We found the road leading up to the hotel poorly lit, so a flashlight is handy for evening walks.

Consider bringing a torch for evening walks, as the nearby roads are poorly lit.

Welcome and service at this quite remote inn are are friendly and genuine, attentive without being at all intrusive - a sometimes difficult balance. Room was comfortable and perfectly adequately equipped. The quality of the food is, in our view, outstanding - we cannot recall enjoying dining in a country inn more - and the wine list excellent. Local produce is featured; game is very good.

The kids loved playing table tennis while we enjoyed relaxing in the gorgeous little back garden. The shared kitchen was fully equipped, and we really appreciated the lovely touch of the flowers in the room.
My kids wished there were more nearby dining options.

Nice hotel, excellent staff and good service. Compact and reasonably large unit with breakfast. Stunning and great location for Mepal, very close to the local wildlife and the views for miles across The Fens and to Ely Cathedral on the horizon, restaurants and nearby services and going for a nice walk.

It was just a great fit for a getaway in Mepal, great for the money. The lovely bathroom with candles made it feel special. Make sure to bring a flashlight for the poorly lit road when you go out in the evening.

The location is idyllic, right by the river with beautiful views across the countryside. The facilities really shine, especially the charming old building that adds character, and the cozy pub atmosphere is perfect for a relaxing evening. I loved the quality of the bedding and linens in my room, which contributed to a comfortable stay.
The parking situation was a bit tricky, made arrival and departure less convenient.

The location is wonderfully peaceful. The communal kitchen was a highlight, fully equipped for self-catering, and the complimentary treats in the room added a nice touch. It's important to note that the atmosphere leans more towards a restaurant with rooms than a traditional pub, which limited relaxation spaces. With only a few local dining options, keep in mind that the food can be on the pricier side if you're staying multiple nights.

lovely family getaway with delicious freshly cooked breakfast
The old building's character combined with beautiful river views. Breakfast was a standout. We savored delicious stewed fruits and full English.
